PREPARING A ZINC SULPHATE SOLUTION
1.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
We can prepare a solution when a solid
dissolves in a liquid homogenously.
The solid is referred to as the solute. The liquid
is referred to as the solvent.
A dilute solution is one where there is a lot
of solvent and only a little solute
A concentrated solution is one where there is
a lot of solute and only a little solvent.
We can express the concentration in
differents ways:
We already learnt g/L
Today we are going to learn
molarity (mol/L)
2.

EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE
1. Calculate mols needed of 100 ml ZnSO4 solution
(1M) and after that determine the grams needed
2. Weight 28,5 grams of ZnSO4 in the beaker
3. Measure 70 ml of water
4. Add 70 ml of water
5. dissolve ZnSO4
in water
6. Transfer the mixture to the volumetric flask
7. Rinse the beaker several
times with small portions of water
8. add water to the volumetric flask calibration mark,
pay attention to the meniscus.
